Kosovo | RENESANSA

On February 4, 2017, RENESANSA, the Association of Women for the Fight against Breast Cancer was founded in Prizren to respond to the major need of support for women affected by breast cancer and their family in Kosovo.  The association was created by breast cancer survivors for women, diagnosed with breast cancer, to give them a better access to information and a place where they can exchange information and experiences.

RENESANSA wants to raise awareness of the importance of early detection of breast cancer; to support, psychologically and socially, breast cancer patients to cope with treatment; to improve the quality of life of breast cancer patients, during and after treatment and finally, to educate and raise awareness on breast cancer.

Since 2017, RENESANSA has conducted several projects aiming to educate Kosovans on health protection and a better access to healthcare for breast cancer patients; and to improve legal rights of women affected by the disease and implement international standards and best practices for diagnosis. The association also cooperates with health institutions to achieve common goals and collaborates with similar organizations abroad.

Over the last 2 years, RENESANSA has implemented the Art Therapy project together with the TFKKK association in Pristina. They organized lectures in school on breast cancer (prevention, early detection, survival rate…), as well as social events, such as a traditional walk in favor of the fight against breast cancer. In October 2018, a round table was organized to broach themes such as prevention and early detection, and request the creation of an oncology department in Prizren.

Breast prostheses and bras

Due to the fact that women in Kosovo do not have health insurance, they cannot provide themselves with prostheses and bras after medical procedures.

Reneasansa is trying in every way to provide funds for the purchase of prostheses and bras for all women in Kosovo who need them.

Some women are even more than ten years without these aids that make their lives better.

In the future they are planning more activities with breast cancer patients from all over Kosovo to discuss their problems after their treatments.
