Casa Valeriu
Casa Valeriu is the association’s most ambitious and transformative project, officially launched on October 26, 2023. Initially planned as a day center, it quickly evolved into a free lodging and support facility for cancer patients traveling to Chișinău from rural areas for treatment. Due to Moldova’s rising cancer incidence and high poverty levels, many patients were abandoning treatment simply because they couldn’t afford accommodation.
The patients come from across Moldova, including remote districts like Briceni, Cahul, and Tiraspol. Casa Valeriu is currently the only facility in Moldova offering free psychological oncology support for both patients and their families.
Supported by local partners like Orange, Moldcell, and Linella, the project is a community-driven initiative born from personal experience and a desire to challenge the 80% cancer mortality rate in Moldova.
Looking ahead, the NGO plans to launch a “Mobile Team” pilot to reach cancer patients who are isolated, impoverished, or stigmatized and cannot travel to Chișinău.
Moldova faces a deep healthcare gap, especially for rural cancer patients who lack access to diagnosis, treatment, or follow-up care. Many are forced to choose between receiving medical help and basic survival.
